Cape Town: Recommended Restaurants

Cape Town is such a diverse and multicultural city in the Western Cape. As a result of its diversity, the Mother City brings with it a huge variety of exceptional restaurants. There is just so many fabulous venues to try that often it is tough to choose. So after a quick visit to our local ophthalmologist Cape Town to get our eyes thoroughly prepared for the restaurant search ahead, we went off to find the greatest eating experiences in the Cape.

Here is a small list of some of the excellent places we found.

If you looking for an African style eatery, then be sure to check out Gold restaurant in Green Point, and Addis in Cape, located in the City Bowl. Addis is a use your hands, communal type eating venue, while Gold restaurant showcases a 14 course menu featuring dishes from all over Africa as well as an excellent drum showpiece which tourists love.

For Mexican food lovers, El Burro in Green Point and Del Mar in Camps Bay are sure to satisfy your cravings. Del Mar is the more expensive option as it offers excellent beach views as well as food that’s of the highest quality. The perfect place to celebrate a special occasion if you have the budget for it. El Burro on the other-hand is a social and loud venue. They serve authentic Mexican food and are famous for the ‘build your own tortilla” option.

If you are looking for a burger joint that offers something more than the mainstream McDonalds or Burger King then you want to make sure you visit any one of the following spots, Jerry’s Burger Bar, known for their delicious tasting patties. You can find a Jerry’s branch in Observatory and Blouberg. Gibson’s Gourmet Burgers & Ribs is the perfect choice if you happen to be at the world famous V&A Waterfront. Gibson’s boast some of the best burgers and ribs in all of Cape Town. Lastly, you can head on over to the popular Kloof Street in the Gardens, where you will find Hudson’s The Burger Joint. Aside from their amazing burgers, they are known for their delicious milkshakes and deep fried Oreos.

For those into Asian food, look no further than Active Sushi on Hudson Street and 1890 House Sushi & Grill in Observatory. Both these restaurants enjoy regular visitors that keep coming back due to their fresh and high quality sushi and excellent service.

If you are looking for a more sophisticated fine dining experience you would be wise to look up the Azure, and the 5 Rooms Restaurant. The Azure is based in the Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, located in Camps Bay. You can book a seat on their terrace that provides you with a breath-taking view of the Atlantic Ocean, a great complement to their delicious food. The 5 Rooms Restaurant is located in Constantia. True to its name, it’s made up of five different rooms. Expect high quality food and a great experience.

Last but not least we will mention a restaurant for the sea food lovers. After all, what would a recommended Cape Town restaurant list be without one catering to fresh seafood? Catch 22 Beachside Grill & Bar is located in Table View. It offers great beach-side views and excellent seafood. The Saldanha Bay mussels are one of the favourites.
